Are Expensive Baby Clothes Worth It? An Honest Mum's Opinion

One question I get asked a lot is whether expensive baby clothes are actually worth the money.

The answer is both yes and no.

Over the years I've bought everything from supermarket basics to premium organic brands, and I've learned that price alone doesn't always determine quality.

What Makes Clothing Good Quality?

For me, good quality children's clothing comes down to a few things:

• How well it washes
• Whether it keeps its shape
• How long it lasts
• Whether it can be passed on

Some brands perform brilliantly in all of these areas, while others don't live up to their price tag.

Brands That Have Impressed Me

The brands that consistently stand out are:

These brands wash exceptionally well and often still look great after being worn by several children.

Duns is probably one of the most impressive I've come across. The colours stay vibrant and the fabric holds up incredibly well.

Brands That Have Disappointed Me

Not every expensive item is automatically better.

In my experience, fast fashion brands and very cheap supermarket clothing simply don't last as well.

The fabrics lose shape, colours fade and items often look more worn after washing a few times.

That doesn't mean every budget item is bad, but quality is often more important than the original price tag.

Is Frugi Worth It?

Yes.

Frugi clothing is well made, colourful and designed to last. It washes beautifully and holds its value well in the preloved market.

Is JoJo Maman Bébé Worth It?

Absolutely.

JoJo pieces often combine practical designs with excellent quality fabrics. Many items still look fantastic after multiple children have worn them.

Is Boden Worth It?

For me, Boden is one of the easiest brands to justify buying preloved.

The quality is excellent, the designs are timeless and many pieces look almost new even after plenty of wear.

Why I Prefer Buying These Brands Preloved

This is where preloved shopping really shines.

Instead of paying full price, you can often buy these high-quality brands for a fraction of the cost.
You still get the benefits of great design and durability, but without the hefty price tag.

Final Thoughts

Expensive baby clothes can absolutely be worth it, but only if the quality matches the price.
For me, the sweet spot is buying high-quality brands preloved. That way I get the quality I want while keeping costs sensible.

It's one of the biggest reasons I love shopping second hand.
